At the end of last month, after many late nights, lots of strong black coffees and more than a few painful print-design jokes amongst the team uttered in moments of delirium (don’t worry we won’t utter them here – or anywhere ever) we were finally ready to release the latest issue of ShellsuitZombie Magazine into the creative wild.
In true SSZ fashion we descended on Blackall Studios, Shoreditch on the sunny morning of April 24th, armed with Blu-tack, a couple of huge rolls of vinyl, a giant cut out Goldie head and a lot of beers to create a one-day-only extravaganza.
During the day we exhibited work from the magazine’s super talented contributors in the form of a giant fluorescent mural, sipping cold Dutch beers (Oranjeboom, we love you) with London’s young creatives as they dropped by to pick up copies of the new issue.Along with the magazine exhibition, we built a large-scale wall timeline documenting the many killer creative events run over the years by our event hosts and long-time partners in crime StudioFiftyFive. These guys have been smashing it everywhere they go since long before we became BFF with them back in the Summer of 2012, and you can check out all that good stuff in the magazine version of the timeline between pages 44 – 47. Luckily it’s not quite as big as a whole wall.
As the sun set over East London we turned the party up a few notches as droves of creatives and industry cats joined the party, with the finest of beats provided by DJs Mo Fingaz and Mohson Stars and approving-eyebrow-raise-inducing coffee rum cocktails provided by the Toussaint Liqueur crew from their pop-up bar all night long. On a side note, Toussaint are more than welcome to set up their bar permanently in my front room.
We had a fully cracking time (complete with proportionately severe hangovers) and extend a most righteous of high fives to each and every one of you who came down and helped make it our best and most debaucherous launch yet.
We hope you’ve been enjoying Issue 5, but if you couldn’t make it down to pick up a copy we now have a list of universities that we’ve sent copies to courtesy of our friends at Moo.com, and of course there’ll be plenty more opportunities to pick one up from us over the summer.
We can’t wait for SSZ6. Keep your beady eyes on this space for updates!
