Exhibition: When I grow up

Lomography are a smart bunch. They’ve picked us, ShellsuitZombie, to curate a month-long exhibition at their Spitalfields shop and told us to kick it off with a launch party/private view on Thursday 4th April 2013.

We love Lomography’s cameras because they’re a nod to the halcyon days of analogue. An era when Blockbuster would scold you for not rewinding whatever Whoopi Goldberg film you’d rented; a time when Pat Sharp’s barnet was a credible alternative to a short, back and sides. So, with this in mind, we’ve decided to get nostalgic and will be asking party goers what did you want to be when you grew up? There will be creative challenges, illustration aplenty and clever arty surprises you’ll wish you thought of. But you won’t have.

Well lucky you; we’ve saved one A2 wall space to hand over to an honorary Zombie each week of the exhibition. For a chance to hang your work up next to ours, email us at team@shellsuitzombie.co.uk with a couple of lines explaining what you’d do and a link to something you’ve already done. Get the crayons out, take some photos or even write a poem, we don’t mind, just make sure whatever you do ties into the theme of “When I Grow Up”. We’ll pick the next winner on Friday 19th April. And don’t chicken out; we can’t wait to hear your idea.

Our last event, Fresh Meat, was a bloody sausage fest. We packed out a Hoxton photography studio with some of the country’s most creative (and best looking) girls and boys, let them gorge on free beer and tweeted the crap out of them. This time, we’ll be selling our own artwork and giving away copies of our latest zine. Plus Lomo will be sending down some of their best photographers to cover the event, so wear something nice. Or nothing at all. Don’t be a lame-o, come see us at Lomo. From 6pm, Lomography Gallery, 117 Commercial St, Old Spitalfields Market.
