Welcome to Mad Skills Monday, where we showcase top work from young creatives to bring some inspiration to beat the post-weekend blues. This week we showcase the harmonious scenes of illustrator Maia Fjord.
Power tool: An array of pencils and Photoshop
Power song: Am I Wry? No – Mew
Power snack: Green tea all day every day (also avocados)
From her upbringing in Denmark to her recent graduation in the UK, Maia Fjord has been a lifelong illustrator. Her work reflects a sense of wide-eyed, childlike wonder using rich pencil textures and a limited but striking colour palette.
Her recent children’s book, Me and Mikkel, tells a story of a young girl and her imaginary friend. This project was proudly on display last week at both D&AD New Blood and the AUB Illustration show High Noon, and you can grab a copy from Etsy.
Alongside books for kids, Maia has experimented with animations and illustrations for magazines, web articles, brochures, textile prints and even a skateboard!
Maia recently graduated from BA Illustration at Arts University Bournemouth and is currently freelancing in Woking. Wanna see more? Check out Maia’s work at her website, Tumblr, Etsy store, Facebook and Twitter.
