Welcome to Mad Skills Monday, where we showcase top work from young creatives to bring some inspiration to beat the post-weekend blues. Today we check out the sharp, glitchy illustrations of Jake ‘Mock’ Joslyn.
Power tool: My Wacom Intuos 4 (although I hope to upgrade soon) seeing as my entire process, from sketch to final product, is digital. My art wouldn’t be possible without this pen tablet.
Power song: Less a song and more the entire album – The Times They Are A-Changin’ by Bob Dylan.
Power snack: Cashews and gourmet chocolate (86% or bust!)
Digital illustrator Jake Joslyn creates images using angular, brightly coloured shapes and gradients that, even at their most abstract, still express powerful emotions, dynamically posed human figures and strong contrasts of light and shadow. This practice also extends to his typography work, with shattered letterforms often blending into the imagery.
Jake is currently freelancing in Kansas City, and you can see more of his work at his website.
Want us to show off your mad skills? We’re always looking for young creatives, students and graduates to showcase for our Monday feature, so send us an email with some samples or a portfolio link with the subject line “Mad Skills Monday” to firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll check you out!
