Welcome to Mad Skills Monday, where we showcase top work from young creatives to bring some inspiration to beat the post-weekend blues. Today we’re inspired by the illustrations, typography and murals of Nathan Evans.
Power Tool: If I’m drawing – 0.1 Uni Pin fine liner and 5mm bullet tip Uni Posca paint markers. If I’m painting – Without a doubt I would have to go with a 4 inch sponge paint roller.
Power Songs: Madvillainy – MF DOOM & Madlib, and Ironman – Ghostface Killah a.k.a. Tony Starks (the whole albums!). I love too many hip-hop albums to choose specific tracks!
Power Snack: Chocky HobNobs dunked into a nice strong builders brew (Yorkshire tea preferably)
Nathan Evans is a creative of many talents, the first of which being his unique illustrative typography series. Here’s some samples of his Typo-RAP-hy project, where lyrics of famous rap artists are presented through dynamic lettering. Like what you see? Then be sure to check out more of this series, along with more of Nathan’s work, at the London Illustration Fair from Friday 5th to Sunday 7th of December.
Nathan’s illustration work relies on combining hand-drawn techniques with harmonious colour palettes, often conveying rich scenery and subtle humour. Here’s some punny images from his ‘Common Homonyms’ series.
Want us to show off your mad skills? We’re always looking for young creatives, students and graduates to showcase for our Monday feature, so send us an email with some samples or a portfolio link with the subject line “Mad Skills Monday” to firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll check you out!
